Fact-check a video: is it real, old or AI?

Misleading videos come in three kinds: made with AI, real but edited, and real but old or from somewhere else. Paste the link and we check the video itself and look up what fact-checkers have already published about its claim.

What we check

  • The picture and the voice, for signs of AI generation or cloning
  • The post's caption and tags, for AI labels
  • Published fact-checks of the claim, through Google's Fact Check Tools
  • Known fakes: re-uploads of videos already confirmed as fake

Then check these yourself

  • Reverse-search a still: screenshot a clear frame and search it with Google Lens to find older copies.
  • Find the first upload: the earliest post is usually closest to the truth.
  • Check the details against the claim: signs, language, weather, uniforms and number plates.
  • Look for a credible report: if something big happened, news outlets will have it.

Fact-checkers in India

Alt News, BOOM, Factly, Vishvas News, Newschecker and India Today Fact Check publish checks of viral videos every day, many in Hindi and other Indian languages. If one of them has checked your video's claim, we show it.

Questions

Do you fact-check the claim yourselves?
No. We find and show published fact-checks of the claim. Our own answer is about the video: whether it looks AI-made, with the evidence.
The video is real but I think it's old. Can you tell?
Not from the pixels alone. A published fact-check, a reverse image search of a still, or the first upload will tell you when and where it was filmed. Our guide shows how.
Is it free?
Quick Scan is free to try, with no sign-up. Deep Scan, which checks every second of picture and sound and gives you the full report and a PDF, is a small one-time payment or part of a monthly plan.
