Luma AI detector: was this video made with Dream Machine or Ray 2?
Luma AI's Dream Machine and its Ray models make cinematic, realistic clips, often from a single photo. Paste a link or upload the clip to check it.
How well we catch Luma
- of 624 Luma test videos flagged as AI
- 95.0%
- called real by mistake
- 1.4%
- each clip tested as published, WhatsApp-quality, 360p and heavily compressed
- 4×
Our model flagged 97.2% of Dream Machine clips but only 80.0% of Ray 2 clips, our weakest result on a named tool, and 6.2% of Ray 2 clips were wrongly called real (the figures above combine both). For a Luma-style clip, weigh the reasons and check where it came from. Every AI tool's results (measured 2026-10-10).
Signs of a Luma video you can check yourself
- A Luma or Dream Machine watermark on clips from free plans.
- Smooth, cinematic camera moves (slow push-ins, orbits around a subject) in what claims to be phone footage.
- Clips of 5 to 10 seconds, often extended in steps, where details drift from one part to the next.
- People in the background who move in loops or fade into the scenery.
None of these proves anything on its own: real videos have odd moments too, and the best AI clips have none.
Questions
- Can it detect Ray 2?
- Less well than most tools: 80.0% of Ray 2 clips were flagged in our test and 6.2% wrongly called real. We publish this so you know when to double-check. Newer Luma models weren't in the test.
- Why publish a weak result?
- Because a detector that hides its blind spots gets trusted when it shouldn't be. Every result shows its reasons, and our accuracy page lists every tool we tested, good results and bad.
